Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to Türkiye on October 21–23, the first bilateral visit to the country by a Canadian prime minister, the Prime Minister's Office announced October 6.

In Ankara, Carney will meet President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to deepen the Canada–Türkiye partnership on energy and mining, climate, defence and security. In Istanbul, he will meet business leaders to expand trade between the two countries, which has grown by roughly 50 per cent over the past five years.

The visit follows the July launch of free-trade negotiations between Canada and Türkiye, and Türkiye's decision to join Canada's Defence Security and Resilience Bank as a founding member.

The trip underscores Ottawa's push to diversify trade and security partnerships beyond traditional allies, with critical minerals and defence cooperation at the top of the agenda.
