Alberta's Serious Incident Response Team is investigating an incident at High River General Hospital in which a patient was injured after barricading himself in a room, the province announced October 6.

ASIRT, the independent body that probes serious incidents involving police in Alberta, announced the investigation in a news release. Details beyond the initial release have not been disclosed, and officials have not said what injuries the patient sustained.

The hospital, located about 55 kilometres south of Calgary, serves the High River community and surrounding rural areas. The investigation is in its early stages.

As with all ASIRT investigations, no findings of wrongdoing have been made, and the probe will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether any policies or procedures were followed.
