Eva Marie Saint, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 1954's 'On the Waterfront,' died October 6 in Los Angeles at the age of 102, NPR reported.
She was the oldest living Academy Award winner and one of the last stars of Hollywood's Golden Age. Born July 4, 1924 in Newark, New Jersey, she began in live television — where she was dubbed 'the Helen Hayes of television' — before her Oscar-winning film debut opposite Marlon Brando.
Her career spanned seven decades: she starred opposite Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock's 'North by Northwest' (1959), won a 1990 Emmy for 'People Like Us,' and returned to the screen in 'Superman Returns' (2006).
Tributes poured in from across Hollywood, honouring a performer whose grace and intensity helped define American screen acting for generations.
