A Delta Air Lines Airbus A350 clipped the tail of an Air Canada jet at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday morning, in a ground collision that is now under investigation by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.

Delta Flight 7 was taxiing for departure to Tokyo Haneda when its wingtip struck the horizontal stabilizer of Air Canada Flight AC785, a Boeing 777-200 that had just arrived from Toronto Pearson and was being towed to its gate. The contact happened at about 10:30 a.m. local time, roughly 1:30 p.m. Eastern.

Both airlines confirmed the contact. Air Canada said its aircraft would be inspected and repaired, and the jet has been removed from service. None of the 275 Delta passengers or 15 crew members was injured.

The FAA is investigating the incident, and the National Transportation Safety Board is assessing whether to open its own probe. Ground collisions on busy taxiways have drawn increasing scrutiny from aviation regulators in recent years.
