Toronto is about to host a concert unlike any other. The 'Signed to God' world tour - the first large-scale hologram concert headlined by a Punjabi artist - opens at Scotiabank Arena this week, bringing the late Sidhu Moose Wala back to the stage through 3D holographic projection synced to his original vocals.
The production was built with a body double in Italy, and organizers say no AI was used to recreate the artist - the voice audiences will hear is Moose Wala's own. His father, Balkaur Singh, is attending the tour, and the show will premiere the unreleased music video for '295.'
Toronto is a fitting launch city: Moose Wala spent formative years in the GTA, and the region's Punjabi diaspora is among the largest in the world. Demand for the opener has been intense since presales began in August, with listings showing the show across the Oct. 8-9 window.
Whether hologram concerts are a heartfelt tribute or an uneasy glimpse of entertainment's future, the tour is already a landmark: a sold-out arena, a grieving fanbase, and a voice that refuses to fade.
