Toronto riders finally have a date. The Eglinton Crosstown LRT, officially the TTC's Line 5 Eglinton, is scheduled to open on Monday, November 9, capping a construction saga that began in 2011 and reshaped one of the city's busiest east-west corridors.

Ontario's transportation minister confirmed the date this week, framing the opening as the finish line for a project long plagued by delays, cost overruns and legal disputes between the province's transit agency and its builders. Free rides are planned for opening day.

Service will not be all-or-nothing. Trains are expected to run at reduced frequency while crews monitor operations over the first week, with full service targeted by November 16. The TTC is advising commuters to check schedules before heading out on day one.

The 19-kilometre line runs across midtown Toronto with 25 stations and stops, linking Kennedy in the east to Mount Dennis in the west and connecting with Line 1, Line 2 and GO Transit along the way — a crosstown option the city's growing midtown neighbourhoods have awaited for years.
