New York Post Media Group publisher and CEO Sean Giancola is stepping down, ending a run of more than a decade at the tabloid — the last seven at the helm — the company announced October 6.

Giancola is credited with returning the group to profitability and steering its digital-first transformation, a pivot that included the launch of The California Post and the Page Six Hollywood vertical. He will remain through early 2026 to oversee the transition.

The departure sets up a closely watched succession at one of America’s most storied tabloids. Parent company News Corp has begun a search for a new chief executive to lead the Post’s next chapter.

The announcement comes during a brutal stretch for American newsrooms: the Post’s crosstown rival-era peers have seen layoffs at the Washington Post, NPR and — announced Wednesday — the Los Angeles Times, which is cutting 74 newsroom jobs.
