Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, New Hampshire, plans to close its primary care clinic in Winchester on November 6, after the clinic's only provider said she is leaving.

The clinic serves about 1,400 patients, who will be directed to Cheshire Medical's two locations in Keene. Its six other employees have been offered positions elsewhere in Dartmouth Health, the system Cheshire is affiliated with.

Chief executive Joseph Perras told local media the site has been hard to staff since its longtime physician retired in 2018, and recruiting an experienced clinician able to work without supervision at the rural location was not feasible.

The closure follows the hospital's announcement last month that it will close its 20-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit at the end of October and eliminate 12 positions, a move attributed to finances.
