Malaysia's IHH Healthcare is making Gleneagles Hospital Johor the centre of a much larger medical campus. The group announced Monday it will acquire Afiniti Wellness in Medini, Johor, expanding the hospital's footprint into an integrated campus of about 18 acres.

The plan centres on a dedicated ambulatory care centre offering consultations, diagnostics and day surgery alongside the main hospital — a model designed to move routine and same-day care out of inpatient wards. On completion, the campus is expected to carry about 350 inpatient beds, with room for a possible additional 150-bed block in a later phase.

Johor's healthcare demand is rising with the state's population growth and its position across the causeway from Singapore, and IHH is positioning the expanded Gleneagles campus to serve both local patients and the region's medical travellers with a wider range of services on one site.

The acquisition adds to a pattern of hospital groups across Asia investing in ambulatory capacity — cheaper to run than full inpatient towers and better matched to how most patients actually use a hospital, through clinics, scans and day procedures rather than long stays.
