Five teenagers have been charged after several Toronto police officers were assaulted at Finch West subway station, police said in a Friday news release.
Officers were called to the Line 1 station to assist TTC special constables dealing with several youths who allegedly manipulated fare gates to enter without paying. When police arrived, one youth was arrested for allegedly assaulting an officer, and police say other youths then surrounded the officers and assaulted them as they tried to interfere with the arrest.
Three youths were arrested and released at the scene with charges, and two more were charged later. The suspects are a 13-year-old, two 14-year-olds and two 15-year-olds, identified only by age because they cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
All five face a charge of obstructing a peace officer, and four are also charged with assaulting a peace officer. Police have not said whether any of the officers required hospital treatment.
