A multi-vehicle crash on Highway 99 in Surrey injured 13 people on Friday evening and closed the highway in both directions for hours, Surrey Police Service said.
The collision, near the Highway 99 interchange with Highway 91, involved a semi-truck and trailer, a double-decker transit bus and several other vehicles. Police say it appears the semi-truck crossed into the southbound lanes before the crash, which was reported at about 4:25 p.m.
BC Emergency Health Services paramedics treated 13 people. Two were taken to hospital in serious but stable condition, including one patient transported by air ambulance, while 11 others were taken to hospital in stable condition.
Surrey Police worked with Surrey Fire Services, Delta police and the City of Surrey to clear the backlog, and DriveBC reported traffic moving again in both directions by about 9:45 p.m. The cause remains under investigation.
