C.W. Morgan, the actor who played Hank Loomis — father of Ghostface killer Billy Loomis — in the original “Scream,” has died at 72, TMZ reported Thursday. Medical examiner records reviewed by TMZ show Morgan died August 30 in Los Angeles County; his cause and manner of death were not immediately clear, though records indicate he died in a bathroom.
Morgan's turn as the oblivious father of one of horror's most infamous killers made him a memorable part of Wes Craven's 1996 slasher classic, the film that redefined the genre for a generation and launched a franchise spanning three decades.
Tributes from horror fans poured in Thursday as news of his death spread, with many remembering the quiet menace of the Loomis household scenes that helped make the original “Scream” an enduring classic.
