The Prince of Wales issued a message on X Saturday morning for World Mental Health Day, urging people to reach out to their loved ones. Around 20 people die by suicide in the UK every day, William noted — a statistic he called a call to action.

Speaking separately to the Daily Express, William said simple check-ins and listening without judgment can matter more than people realize, adding that "sometimes, a simple conversation is where hope begins." His comments come amid his Royal Foundation's work on the National Suicide Prevention Network.

The World Health Organization, marking the day under its 2026 theme "Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change," also released a practical guide on October 9 urging countries to shift from institutional care to community-based mental health services — a push to bring support closer to the people who need it.
