Anthropic has launched Claude for Life Sciences, a toolkit aimed at putting artificial intelligence directly inside healthcare and life-sciences research workflows. The launch, announced October 16 and covered by TechCrunch, pairs new specialised connectors — including Benchling, BioRender, PubMed, Synapse.org and 10x Genomics — with a new Claude for Life Sciences Skill and a Model Context Protocol directory for developers.

The toolkit's first skills target some of the most time-consuming work in biomedical research: single-cell RNA quality control, literature reviews, protocol generation, bioinformatics analysis and regulatory compliance. Anthropic says the connectors and skills are designed to work with popular scientific tools so researchers can run complex workflows without leaving their existing software.

The company is already citing results from early adopters. Elsie, built with Biogen and Science Exchange, uses Claude to handle about 95 percent of clinical access requests, while Novo Nordisk reported that Claude cut clinical documentation time from more than 10 weeks to 10 minutes in its trials.

The launch extends the competitive race to own the science lab, with AI developers betting that domain-specific toolkits — not general chatbots — will define how artificial intelligence enters healthcare, hospitals and drug discovery.
