Toronto's newest transit line finally has an opening date. The TTC confirmed on Tuesday that Line 6 Finch West, the 10.3-kilometre light-rail line across the city's northwest, will open to the public on Sunday, November 16.
TTC spokesperson Stuart Green confirmed the November 16 date to CityNews on October 13. Before the full launch, the TTC will host preview rides from Finch West station on Sunday, November 2, with invitations being distributed this week, and Metrolinx is planning a community run along the corridor on November 9.
The line runs from Humber College in the west to Finch West station on Line 1, serving 18 stops through some of the most transit-dependent neighbourhoods in Toronto. Its Alstom Citadis Spirit light-rail vehicles can each carry more than 300 passengers, and the route parallels the 36 Finch West bus, consistently one of the busiest bus routes in the TTC network.
Built by the Mosaic Transit Group consortium for about $3.7 billion, the project has been under construction since 2019, and its opening has been anticipated — and delayed — for years. The November launch makes Line 6 the first of Toronto's long-promised new rapid-transit lines to carry passengers, arriving ahead of the still-unopened Eglinton Crosstown.
