TikTok is turning its main feed into a storefront. The company announced Monday a conversational AI 'Shopping Assistant' — an AI agent that helps users discover and buy products, remembering context and preferences as the conversation goes on.
Paired with the assistant is one-click 'Buy Direct' checkout, letting users purchase directly from brands inside the For You feed without ever leaving the app.
The assistant is designed to answer the practical questions shoppers usually take to search engines or chatbots: product details, shipping, sizing and availability — then help complete the purchase in place. TikTok built the commerce layer with partners including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe.
The announcement, timed to Advertising Week New York 2026, pushes well beyond TikTok Shop. The goal is to keep product questions — and the transactions that follow — inside TikTok rather than losing them to tools like ChatGPT. eMarketer projects TikTok Shop's U.S. sales at about $15.8 billion for 2025, and this move is aimed squarely at growing that number.
