A group of celebrities including David Beckham, Michael Jordan and Oprah Winfrey has sued OpenAI, alleging the company's Sora video app let users create artificial intelligence videos using their likenesses without permission, Courthouse News Service reported.

The lawsuits, filed in federal court in Los Angeles, target Sora's Cameos feature, which builds a digital likeness from uploaded video. The plaintiffs argue the feature enabled unauthorized commercial use of their images and voices, and that some generated clips put words in their mouths they never said.

OpenAI has pushed back on the claims, according to Bloomberg Law reporting on the cases, as the company faces a wider set of legal fights over how generative AI tools use people's likenesses and creative work.

The cases add to a growing legal debate over consent and compensation when AI systems can reproduce a real person's face and voice. No court has ruled on the merits of the Sora claims.
