Fieldguide AI, a San Francisco startup that builds artificial intelligence software for accounting and audit firms, has raised $58 million in new funding, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The company plans to grow its customer base to around 100,000 accounting firms and use the new capital to expand its product line, with the goal of eventually allowing its AI agents to perform client work directly rather than only assisting human staff.
Fieldguide's pitch sits inside a broader land rush: investors are pouring money into AI tools for professional services — accounting, law and consulting — where firms face chronic staffing shortages and heavy documentation workloads.
The raise also raises the stakes for established audit-software vendors, as AI-native startups move from note-taking and drafting toward doing regulated client work themselves.
