A suspected paramilitary drone strike in Sudan's Blue Nile State, near the Ethiopian border, killed at least 40 people on Friday — most of them women and girls working near a displacement camp, according to reports. A rights group later put the toll at 41.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric condemned the "horrific" attack and reminded combatants that targeting civilians is prohibited under international humanitarian law. Sudan's provincial governor blamed the Rapid Support Forces and said the drone was launched from inside Ethiopia — a claim Ethiopia denies.
The strike is the latest atrocity in Sudan's devastating civil war, where civilian casualties continue to mount with little prospect of accountability. For the displaced families sheltering near the border, nowhere has proven safe.
