Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Centre reported six deaths, eight injuries and one person missing from heavy rains, floods, high winds and landslides that struck the island from mid-September to early October, according to its situation report issued at 10:00 hrs today.

The calamities affected 1,366 families and displaced 4,934 people across multiple provinces. Four houses were fully destroyed and 763 partially damaged, officials said.

Disaster response teams remain on the ground as the island nation grapples with the aftermath of one of the most damaging stretches of monsoon-season weather in recent years.
