The Vegas Golden Knights pulled away late to beat the Calgary Flames 6-2 on Thursday night at T-Mobile Arena, turning a close game into a rout in the third period.
Captain Mark Stone was the difference. He scored three times in the final period, starting just over a minute after the intermission, to complete a hat trick and bury a Calgary team that had stayed within reach through forty minutes. Vegas led 2-0 after the first period and 3-1 after the second before Stone's outburst made it 6-2.
Mitch Marner set up a goal 25 seconds into the game and added another assist on Stone's hat-trick goal. Marner has now recorded an assist in five consecutive games, with six assists across that stretch.
The win improved Vegas to 7-2, while Calgary fell to 1-6 in a difficult start to its season. The Golden Knights next host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena.
