The Ottawa Senators continued their strong start to the season on Thursday night, defeating the New York Islanders 2-1 in a shootout at Canadian Tire Centre.
Linus Ullmark made 20 saves for Ottawa, and Ridly Greig scored the Senators' regulation goal as the teams traded few chances in a tight, low-event game. The Islanders matched Ottawa's single goal to force overtime, which solved nothing.
In the shootout, Shane Pinto scored the lone goal, beating the Islanders' goaltender to give the Senators the extra point and send the home crowd home happy.
The win improved Ottawa to 6-2-0 on the young season, keeping the Senators near the top of their division, while the Islanders took a single point from the road loss.
