Voters in Miami-Dade County will choose a new circuit judge this fall, with two experienced lawyers running for the open Group 69 seat, according to coverage published October 15.
Rita Baez, a solo practitioner, faces Bonita Jones-Peabody, a longtime Miami-Dade public defender. The winner replaces Judge Richard Hersch, who sits in the circuit's criminal division, did not seek re-election and is set to leave office in January.
Early voting begins Monday, ahead of election day on November 3. Judicial races in Florida are nonpartisan, and the campaigns have focused on courtroom experience and temperament.
The Group 69 contest is one of the local races Miami-Dade voters will decide alongside the November 3 midterm ballot.
