Los Angeles County's Metro is modernizing the back-office system behind its ExpressLanes toll corridors, and Canadian technology firm Quarterhill has been selected as a subcontractor on the program, the company announced October 15.

Quarterhill will work under BRiC-TPS on the new back office system for ExpressLanes operations and maintenance on Interstates 10, 110 and 105, plus future corridors. The subcontract is valued at approximately $28.2 million.

Back-office systems handle the billing, account management and transaction processing that sit behind toll lanes. Metro serves Los Angeles County, home to nearly 10 million residents.

The award extends Quarterhill's California footprint, following recently announced work with the state transportation agency Caltrans.
