Meta has launched a new open-weight artificial intelligence model called Muse Spark Open, which the company describes as its most capable open release in the United States, TechCrunch reported on October 15.
The model carries 816 billion parameters and a context window of one million tokens. Meta says it is natively multimodal and built for complex coding and agentic tasks, and it has been paired with the company's Muse Code terminal for software work.
Unusually, the model was designed to run locally on Apple computers — though the hardware bar is steep. Running it at home requires at least one terabyte of RAM, and Meta positions the M5 Ultra Mac Studio as the machine it runs best on.
Meta is making the model available through several API platforms. Open-weight releases let developers inspect and adapt models and can be cheaper to run than closed systems, though the largest ones still demand serious computing power.
