Milwaukee's 22-year-old star Jackson Chourio delivered the biggest at-bat of the Brewers' season Sunday, lining Mason Miller's 101.3 mph fastball through the middle with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to score Christian Yelich and Sal Frelick for a stunning 4-3 walk-off victory over the San Diego Padres in Game 2 of the National League Division Series at American Family Field.
The Padres entered the ninth with a 3-2 lead and a 98 per cent win probability, handing the ball to a closer who had struck out 12 of his first 15 postseason batters — an MLB record. Miller opened the at-bat with 100, 102 and 104 mph heat before Chourio laid off a hanging slider to stay alive at 2-2, then pounced on the next fastball.
The walk-off capped what one account called less a rally than a jailbreak, as Milwaukee stunned a team that had controlled the game deep into the night. The win puts the Brewers firmly in the driver's seat in the best-of-five series.
It was a breakthrough October moment for Chourio, the young left fielder who has quickly become one of baseball's most electrifying talents — and who now owns one of the most famous swings in Brewers postseason history.
