A Brevard County Sheriff's Office senior homicide agent was killed late Saturday night in a wrong-way, head-on crash on Interstate 95 near Titusville, a loss Sheriff Wayne Ivey announced as the agency mourned one of its own.

Agent Kevin Morris was responding to a deputy-involved shooting when the crash happened. According to the sheriff's office, a 2021 Nissan Sentra made a U-turn near mile marker 223 and travelled the wrong way in the northbound lanes, colliding head-on with Morris's vehicle near mile marker 221, south of State Road 46. Both drivers were killed, and both vehicles caught fire.

Ivey identified Morris at a briefing where senior officers stood behind him and a memorial portrait of the agent was displayed. Morris served as a senior agent in the sheriff's homicide unit.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Authorities have not released further details about the wrong-way driver, or about the deputy-involved shooting Morris was responding to when he was killed.
