The next construction worker on some building sites may arrive on three wheels. Origin, a San Francisco-based full-stack physical AI company, has emerged from stealth with $20 million in total funding to deploy OG-1, its flagship robot for interior construction, and to build out its fleet for large-scale pilots with customers in the U.S. and Europe.

The round was co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures, with participation from Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures, Z21, ISAI and Imad Ventures, and angel investors from Anduril, Skild AI, 1X and Tesla. Founded in early 2025 by Yogesh Ghaturle, Ashish Daga and Tushar Makkar, Origin is building general-purpose robots to help crews increase capacity on interior trades.

OG-1’s party trick is wall finishing: today it autonomously completes wall-finishing workflows without human intervention — applying compound, sanding and priming walls to a professional finish. It works at heights of up to 14 feet, handles corners, pillars, soffits and edges, and uses real-time force control to keep consistent pressure against the wall. A 360-degree view and a three-wheeled platform built for rough, uneven sites let it work alongside crews while other trades continue, without a cordoned-off area.

Origin says additional pilots are scheduled in Germany, Sweden, France and Saudi Arabia, alongside large drywall-finishing contractors in the U.S. The bet behind the $20 million is that construction’s chronic labour shortage will be answered not by a humanoid for every task, but by specialised robots that master one trade at a time — starting with the dustiest job on site.
