An artificial intelligence chip startup is now valued in the tens of billions. Etched has hit a $10.3 billion valuation from big-name investors, TechCrunch reported, despite skepticism about challenging entrenched chip suppliers.
Etched is part of a wave of companies designing specialized hardware for AI workloads, betting that purpose-built chips can run large models faster or more efficiently than general-purpose processors.
The valuation underscores how much capital continues to flow into the infrastructure behind artificial intelligence, from data centres and power to the silicon itself, even as questions grow about how quickly revenue will match investment.
For the broader Tech sector, the deal is another signal that investors see the AI hardware stack as still unsettled. Whether specialized challengers can win share from incumbents will depend on performance in real customer deployments over the next two years.
