Yemen's internationally recognised government says five people were killed and 16 wounded when ballistic missiles struck the presidential palace in the southern port city of Aden on Thursday.

Health Minister Qasim Buhaibeh said the dead included site guards and civilian employees at al-Maashiq Palace. Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani told the BBC that Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani and other ministers were unharmed in the attack.

A Houthi military spokesman said the intended target was a Saudi military operations headquarters in Aden; that claim has not been independently verified. The Saudi-led coalition backs the Yemeni government and provides air cover, and earlier on Thursday the coalition said it had intercepted a cruise missile in Saudi Arabia's Medina region, which the Houthis denied launching.

Zindani condemned the strike and said his government would continue its operations along the south-west Red Sea coast and other front lines.
