South Africa has recorded four new mpox cases, the Department of Health confirmed on Sunday, lifting the country's cumulative total to 26 cases since January 1, 2026, up from 22.
The cases have been detected across five provinces, with the Western Cape accounting for the largest share of infections so far, according to the department and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).
Department official Mohale said health authorities will continue working with the NICD, provincial governments and other stakeholders to strengthen surveillance, case finding and contact tracing around each confirmed case.
Officials urged the public to stay alert for mpox symptoms and to seek care early, saying rapid identification and isolation of cases remains the main tool for keeping the outbreak contained at its current low level.
