The Southport child killer returns to court on Monday — this time over violence allegedly committed inside prison. Axel Rudakubana, 20, is set to appear at the Old Bailey in London after being charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to a prison worker.
Rudakubana is alleged to have thrown boiling water mixed with sugar at the staff member at Belmarsh prison in south London on May 8. An earlier hearing at Westminster magistrates' court was told that prompt medical attention prevented lasting injury to the officer.
Prosecutors say the alleged attack followed a threat two days earlier, when Rudakubana is claimed to have told a female officer he would 'soak' her if she did not pass him a newspaper, and to have later thrown an unknown liquid at her through his cell-door hatch.
He also faces two counts of assaulting an emergency worker — on May 6 and on October 28 last year — and a charge of possessing an offensive weapon in prison on June 26 last year, when sharpened stone shards, thought to have been prised from his cell floor, were allegedly found stuck beneath a shelving unit.
Rudakubana is serving a life sentence for the murders of Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and the attempted murder of eight other children and two adults at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport on July 29, 2024.
