A London woman whose life changed in an instant when she was hit by a police car in Walthamstow, in the city's northeast, has told the BBC she does not want to be defined by what happened to her.

She spent six weeks in a coma after the crash and faced a long recovery. She now does voluntary work and says that helping others has been central to rebuilding her life.

Speaking to the BBC, she rejected the label of victim, framing her story instead around recovery and the support she received along the way.

Her account, published by the BBC on Friday, is one of a series of London stories examining how people rebuild after life-changing injuries.
