The Chicago White Sox are one win away from the American League Championship Series. Montgomery lined a two-run double off Erik Sabrowski in the sixth to erase a 2-1 deficit, and Chase Meidroth singled him home for the 4-2 lead as Chicago came back to beat the Cleveland Guardians 4-3 in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday night at Progressive Field.
Rookie Sean Burke was the story of the night, throwing 5⅓ innings of one-hit relief with six strikeouts after opener Anthony Kay was pulled in the first inning. Gavin Williams struck out 11 over five-plus innings for Cleveland, and Jo Adell's RBI triple in the eighth cut the lead to 4-3 before Grant Taylor closed out his second straight save.
The win gives Chicago a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series — a series deficit no team has overcome in ALDS history without winning all three remaining games.
Game 3 is Wednesday, October 7 at Rate Field in Chicago, with first pitch at 3:00 p.m. Central on TBS.
