The question of long-range weapons is back at the centre of the Ukraine war. U.S. President Donald Trump said this week that Ukraine is asking for Tomahawk cruise missiles and other arms, ahead of a White House meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy scheduled for Friday.
Zelenskyy is expected to press Kyiv's case in person, as Ukraine continues to absorb Russian strikes on its cities and energy infrastructure. Tomahawks, with their long range, would mark a significant step in the kind of support Washington provides.
Trump has not announced a decision. The deliberations are unfolding in public unusual even by recent standards, with the president discussing the request openly days before the meeting.
Whatever Friday produces — a commitment, a delay or a refusal — will shape the battlefield conversation for weeks. European allies are watching the visit closely for signals about the direction of U.S. policy.
