This week's streaming charts in Nigeria tell a story of Afrobeats' unstoppable momentum. Fast-rising singer FOLA's collaboration with Davido, "2am in Toronto," cracked the Apple Music Nigeria Top 10 at No. 10 on October 9, extending the chart run of his album 9, which recently topped the Top Albums chart.
At the summit, Seyi Vibez's "Back 2 U" climbed to No. 1 on Apple Music Nigeria for the first time on October 8 — the fourth track from his SWAGUU project to reach the top. Earlier in the week, Blaqbonez and Asake's "Ikebe 3000" led the chart, showing how crowded the race for Nigeria's song of the week has become.
In South Africa, this week's fresh drops kept amapiano and hip-hop fans busy. Zkhiphani's weekly roundup spotlighted DJ Zinhle, Young Stunna and Nayvee Womculo's "Nayvee's Prayer," the star-studded "Yebo Nkosi" with Sykes, Dlala Thukzin and Kabza De Small, and Nasty C's "Mode" featuring Tellaman and Blxckie.
With the charts this competitive on both sides of the continent, next week's race for the top spot is already wide open.
