Wednesday delivered the NBA’s first full night of the new season, and the scoreboard filled up fast. The Houston Rockets beat the Dallas Mavericks 128-110 at the Toyota Center, riding a 38-12 second quarter that broke the game open, while the Atlanta Hawks edged the Orlando Magic 132-125.
Elsewhere in the NBA, the Washington Wizards opened with a 128-116 win over the Milwaukee Bucks as their new Anthony Davis–Trae Young pairing debuted, the Charlotte Hornets beat the Brooklyn Nets 110-103, and the Memphis Grizzlies held off the Utah Jazz 116-97 in a game headlined by rookie debuts. Toronto’s 135-92 rout of Chicago and Minnesota’s 131-106 win in Miami completed a high-scoring night.
On the ice, the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 at KeyBank Center, scoring twice in the first period and adding a third-period insurance goal. The Ottawa Senators produced the NHL’s most lopsided result of the night, beating the Florida Panthers 5-1.
In the WNBA, the Atlanta Dream beat the Golden State Valkyries 97-71 to take a 2-1 series lead. The results set the early-season table across leagues, with a full NHL slate — including Toronto hosting the New York Rangers — following on Thursday.
