RJ Mitte, the actor best known for playing Walter White Jr. on the acclaimed drama 'Breaking Bad,' has died at the age of 34, his representatives announced on Monday.
Mitte died in Brownsville, Texas. A spokesperson for the local justice of the peace office confirmed the death to CNN, and Brownsville police said they received an emergency call around midday on Monday and found Mitte already deceased. Police said no foul play is suspected at this time, and the death investigation remains ongoing. His representatives' statement did not release a cause of death.
Living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought his own experience to the role of Walter 'Flynn' White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston's Walter White, appearing across all five seasons of the AMC series from 2008 to 2013. The show won 16 Emmy Awards, including two for best drama series, and is routinely ranked among the greatest television dramas ever made.
Off screen, Mitte built a second career as a disability rights advocate. He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's, led the Mitte Foundation, worked as a Screen Actors Guild spokesman for actors with disabilities, and received the SAG-AFTRA Harold Russell Award in 2013. Co-stars including Aaron Paul and Dean Norris paid tribute on Monday, remembering him as a friend who used his platform to challenge stereotypes and push for greater representation.
