Prime Minister Mark Carney has widened his lead in a new Angus Reid Institute survey, chosen as best prime minister by 55 per cent of respondents, compared with 29 per cent for Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.
The poll, conducted online from October 9 to 13 among 4,205 Canadian adults, puts federal vote intention at 44 per cent for the Liberals, 38 per cent for the Conservatives, 10 per cent for the NDP, 5 per cent for the Bloc Québécois and 2 per cent for the Greens. A separate Abacus Data survey released this week had the Liberals at 45 per cent and the Conservatives at 40 per cent.
The Angus Reid release also tracked leader approval, placing Carney's approval at 55 per cent against 39 per cent disapproval, and probed whether voters think Poilievre should remain Conservative leader.
The numbers arrive days before Alberta's October 19 referendum vote, which Carney has publicly urged Albertans to settle by voting to stay in Canada. Online polls cannot be assigned a margin of error in the traditional sense; the Angus Reid sample was weighted to census benchmarks.
