HDFC Bank is in the spotlight on Monday after appointing Anup Bagchi as its next chief executive officer for a three-year term. Bagchi is currently managing director and CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, and his move to India's largest private-sector lender marks one of the biggest executive appointments in Indian banking this year.

The appointment comes as investors assess a mixed set of business updates ahead of the Q3 earnings season. Bajaj Finance reported an 11 per cent year-on-year rise in new loans booked in the September quarter, while Avenue Supermarts (DMart) posted an 18.4 per cent jump in standalone revenue. Tata Motors' passenger vehicle arm reported a 24.5 per cent rise in JLR wholesale volumes, even as retail sales declined 7.5 per cent.

Broader markets reopened Monday after the holiday break with several heavyweight stocks in focus, including Infosys, Wipro and Hindustan Zinc, after a mixed session last Thursday. Foreign portfolio investors remained net sellers, while domestic institutions continued to provide support.

With the leadership transition now confirmed, attention turns to how Bagchi steers the bank through the next phase of growth as the market heads into a busy reporting season.
