A lawsuit by electric violinist Brian King Joseph against Will Smith and his company Treyball Studios Management drew fresh coverage on October 15, with the Los Angeles Times reviewing the allegations and the responses to them.
Joseph alleges he faced a hostile work environment and was wrongfully terminated after raising a safety complaint connected to the 2024-25 tour marking the anniversary of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, on which Smith performed and Joseph played. The suit seeks damages including lost earnings and emotional-distress damages.
People close to Smith have described the dispute differently, pointing to a disagreement before a show and saying Joseph was let go early in the run. Smith has not admitted the allegations, and the claims have not been tested in court.
The case remains an allegation-stage civil dispute. OTMedia is reporting the existence of the lawsuit and the published responses, not any finding of wrongdoing.
