The Government of Canada is investing nearly $6.6 million in ten organizations in Eastern Ontario, the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario announced on October 15 in Peterborough.

MP Emma Harrison made the announcement on behalf of Evan Solomon, the minister responsible for FedDev Ontario. The funding is meant to help recipients modernize operations, strengthen supply chains and expand the products and services they can sell.

The largest single contribution in the backgrounder goes to Scapa Tapes North America, which receives $2 million toward new equipment and technology. Continental Conveyor receives $1 million, while manufacturing and steel-processing firms in the Kawarthas and Cobourg are among the other recipients, alongside an agri-tourism business and a vertical-farming company.

Ottawa describes Eastern Ontario as an economic engine linking the Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal markets, generating billions in GDP through advanced manufacturing, agriculture and tourism.
