Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke by phone with U.S. President Donald J. Trump on Sunday, in a call focused on Ukraine, energy and trade between Canada and the United States.

According to the Prime Minister's Office readout, Carney thanked Trump for his leadership toward securing an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia and expressed Canada's strong support for it. He reiterated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's call for Russia to uphold the agreement, saying attacks on energy infrastructure and civilians must cease immediately.

Canada says it will continue to join allies in supporting Ukraine's defences and its citizens.

The readout also said Canada will continue to maximise exports of oil and diesel to the United States, yielding well over a million barrels of diesel per day — a point Ottawa has stressed as cross-border energy trade remains central to the bilateral relationship.
