U.S. markets head into Thursday, October 15 after a rough session driven by hotter-than-expected September inflation, which came in at 3.7 per cent year over year and raised bets on another Federal Reserve rate move. This is market news only, not advice to trade.

Chip and AI names led the slide: the Philadelphia semiconductor index fell for a sixth straight day, with CoreWeave, Dell, Oracle and Marvell among the big losers and Nvidia also down. Retail sales, producer prices and jobless claims were all due at 8:30 a.m. ET on Thursday.

Bank of America fell after reporting earnings that included a $1.2 billion regulatory charge and a revenue miss, while Morgan Stanley beat estimates but still slipped, according to the market briefing.

One bright spot was TSMC, which posted a sixth straight record quarterly profit, with net profit up sharply year over year and a fourth-quarter revenue guide above $52 billion, keeping the chipmaker on the watchlist for the next 24 hours.
