The UN World Food Programme says a severe funding shortfall is forcing it to slash food aid in Gaza, cutting the number of people receiving monthly support from 1.6 million to 1.1 million — about half a million Palestinians losing assistance.

Food rations will be halved, cash assistance cut for 75,000 families, and daily hot meals will fall from 250,000 to 150,000, with hard-to-reach families receiving a meal only every other day.

About 1.4 million people — two-thirds of Gaza's population — face crisis-level food insecurity or worse, including roughly 200,000 people in emergency conditions, the agency said.

Acting Executive Director Carl Skau, speaking from Gaza, warned that life remains brutal and that the cuts land just as the territory faces a fourth winter. The WFP says it urgently needs $450 million over the next six months to sustain operations in Gaza and the West Bank, after funding for Palestinian operations fell by more than half compared with 2025.
