BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa — Police in the Free State have launched a manhunt after twin brothers were shot and killed at the entrance to their business premises in Bochabela, near Bloemfontein, on Wednesday morning, October 21.

The victims, Kegomodicoe Lekone and Keabecoe Lekone, both aged 52, were shot on Ramatsoele Street, according to a police statement. Officers at Mangaung Police Station received an alert from Radio Control at approximately 8:51 a.m., and patrol officers dispatched to the scene arrived at about 9 a.m.

Initial investigations indicate the brothers were sitting inside a charcoal-coloured Ford Ranger at the gate of their premises when gunmen attacked them. Both the driver and the passenger sustained gunshot wounds, and an ER24 paramedic declared both men deceased at the scene.

The South African Police Service says the search for the suspects is under way and the motive has not been announced. Business-premises attacks of this kind remain a persistent concern for small-business owners in the province, and police are expected to appeal for witnesses who were in the area on Wednesday morning.
