Police in South Africa have seized drugs with an estimated street value exceeding R1 million in Ballito, on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, eNCA reported in its Monday news roundup.
A 43-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure and was expected to appear in court, according to the report. Police had not released further detail about the type or quantity of drugs involved in the initial reporting.
Ballito, a coastal town north of Durban, sits in a province where police have run a series of operations against drug networks supplying both local users and traffickers moving product through the port city.
The Ballito seizure led eNCA's crime coverage on a busy Monday news day in South Africa, which also saw former president Thabo Mbeki testify at the Khampepe inquiry and the latest Johannesburg election polling released ahead of the local government elections.
