Microsoft has pulled out of a project to build the UK's largest AI data centre on the edge of London, according to reporting by the Evening Standard highlighted in Monday's London news roundups.
The withdrawal removes the anchor tenant from one of the most ambitious pieces of AI infrastructure planned in Britain, at a moment when demand for computing capacity is driving a wave of data-centre construction around the capital.
Reports on Monday did not set out Microsoft's reasons for stepping back, and it was not immediately clear whether the project will seek another operator or be shelved.
The decision lands as ministers promote the UK as a destination for AI investment. A gap at the largest planned site would leave rivals in Europe and North America to absorb capacity that London expected to host.
