BOSTON — Hospitals are being offered a new way to prove what their nurses can actually do. StaffGarden by Ascend Learning, a frontline development platform for hospitals, announced on Wednesday the launch of more than 300 evidence-based RN competencies and criteria across foundational, multispecialty and specialty practices, in a GlobeNewswire release.

The competencies are built on decades of Versant Healthcare Competency Solutions research and testing, and are designed to help organisations move beyond procedure-based skills checklists to validating what practice readiness actually requires: clinical judgment, decision-making and observable behaviours alongside technical skill.

The portability is the operational pitch. Combined with StaffGarden's digital competency management platform, role-based profiles let a competency a nurse has already demonstrated carry forward, so nurses can move across units, roles and sites within a health system more quickly, without revalidating what they have already proven — giving organisations more flexibility to place staff where they are needed most.

For nurse professional development teams, updating competencies from scratch can take months. The launch gives those teams a pre-built, best-practice foundation they can configure to their specialties, sites and policies, with support from the company's clinical specialists.
