The Cleveland Guardians are heading to the ALCS after completing a remarkable 0-2 comeback in the AL Division Series, beating the Chicago White Sox 2-0 in Saturday's winner-take-all Game 5 at Progressive Field.
José Ramírez delivered the decisive blow, a two-run homer in the fourth inning that accounted for all of the game's scoring. Starting pitcher Gavin Williams was dominant, striking out 11 over five shutout innings to keep Chicago's bats silent.
Cleveland becomes the first team since the 2017 Yankees to win a best-of-five series after losing the first two games. The Guardians will face the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALCS starting Monday after Tampa swept the Yankees 3-0.
Around the rest of baseball, Milwaukee and the Dodgers also advanced in the National League. In the NHL on Saturday, the Penguins edged the Stars 2-1 in a shootout, the Lightning beat the Islanders 5-3, and the Maple Leafs topped the Avalanche 6-3.
